I bet you’re wondering what the life of a hedgen is like. Well I don’t know about others but I can tell you my story!

Sunshine rays usually bounce about and dazzle upon the inner walls of my humble burrow; waking me up as gently as possible. It’s so polite no matter how stubborn I am to turn over and try and cling to sleepy dreams. When I do wake it’s always worth the effort as I find myself trying to play with the soft beams of light warming my cheeks and tiny paws. I can’t stay for long though as I must be off to get clean for the day.

The pond is lovely and charismatic while I bath with enthusiasm to the sound of froggens singing such lovely songs in tune while freebees buzz around us. Everyone has their morning rituals of course but, they seemed to make it so much more special as their voices vary in range and pitch with much enjoyment. Shaking off the excess water trying to get dry quicker, I’ll have a nice bite to eat afterwards and carry on.

I love morning walks! Shifting my weight from side to side in what I’m told is a quick pace I trot over the soft floor of the earth with a great and pleasing smile. Why you might ask? Because of all the beautiful flowers! I get to see them swaying in bloom showing off their pretty colors. They offer such lovely scents and I like to talk to them and ask sometimes to be closer to enjoy them. Avians are normally chirruping and fluttering the same as me, highlighted with joy of the place that we live. So alive and so vibrant! Sometimes I don’t want it to end.

If it didn’t however, then I would miss out on spending time with my friends! I congregate with a lot of other hedgens and we play all sorts of games together. My favorite is tag where we have to run and catch each other by snuggling with our noses. I’m pretty good but do get caught sometimes. Every once in a while we also have to run and hide. “Look out for the hawk!” It can be so scary yet everything seems to work out fine.

With all the excitement I must ensure the energy to make it home and when I do I take a nice long nap. It helps me recuperate and naps are generally nice to have. When I wake I practice on my own little projects. If you get the right ones you can make paints out of berries and some special blooms. Painting is not only fun but relaxing. By the time I’m done I’ll be ready for supper.

During or after my meal I sit outside in the cool air looking up at the night sky. It’s so starry and bright with little twinkles that make you smile from the inside. Sometimes the moon even comes out to gaze over you. I admire the night as much as the day. It’s beautiful in its own unique way!

About this time I do begin to get tired, come in for the night and try to keep warm. I’m only so big you know! Curling up I like to reflect and enjoy the peacefulness of the evening. Crickets can be heard chirping with conversation and other creatures are just starting their day while mine is ending. Eventually it’s time for bed and before long I’ll be ready to do this all again.
